Ann Curry
Ann Curry is an American photographer and journalist who has been reporting for over 45 years focusing on the human suffering in the aftermath of natural catastrophes and war zones. Curry has covered the conflict zones of Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo and the Central African Republic. Curry's maternal grandmother is Japanese and her father was an American Navy Sailor. In the aftermath of World War II, her parents met when her father served in Japan. Her father served in the military, so her family was forced to relocate often. The family eventually arrived in Ashland Oregon where Curry attended the high school. The University of Oregon awarded her a bachelor of arts in journalism. Her exposure to diverse cultures and situations during her growing up years probably contributed to her empathy in her approach to international topics.
